old maps.Sept.

The old map of Castlebar ('Old Maps' Sept.) is really interesting. Often wondered about the really high wall behind the Imperial Hotel backing on to the grounds of The Lawn. On the map this was the site of the Old Gaol (spelling as found) Think this wall may have been taken down during building work, in recent times...you able walkers might like to check! The retaining (?) wall between the Military Barracks square and Castle street car-park is quite high. Look out for others. As children on MacHale road the initiation test for being really 'in' was to be able to climb Clarkes' wall, on the back road. I find it hard to believe that I even managed the Sportsfield wall a couple of times. Many thanks for the
map.
