I read in this weeks Connaught that 'Big Maggie', the play by John B Keane will shortly be on in the TF, starring Keith Duffy of Boyzone fame. A production of this play took place in the Town Hall in March 1971 by the dramatic group, Castlebar Players. Produced by Tony O'Neill,it starred Ann Leonard as Big Maggie, Eileen Grier, Tucker St as Katie, Chris Conlon as Old Man, Ken Lyons as Mick, Bernadette Mee as Mrs. Madden, Monica Healy as Gert, Tony Kelly as Teddy, Catherine Tynan as Mary Nevin and Kay Flaherty as Old Woman. It played to packed houses and the initial 3 day run was extended. It also played in different towns throughout Mayo. The participants had rehearsed for weeks in St Anthony's NS located then up in Station Road. A wonderful production by all reports.
