When the Earl of Lucan presented The Green ( The Mall ),to the Town of Castlebar to be used as a Town Park,he left in a covenant prohibiting the erection of monuments of a "political or religious character" and this prevented plans years ago by the Urban Council,to erect a memeorial to the memory of Fr.Conroy,PP of Addergoole( Lahardane ), on the site where he was hanged.
