Fascinating information EK. I had never heard of a dump at the mouth of the river but I do remember very well the Moy Drainage and the hugh banks of dredged earth that flanked all the smaller streams and rivers that fed into the drainage system. They looked like old celtic earthworks after a few years especially those that had not washed back into the streanm or river they were excavated from.

Maybe the dump at the mouth of the river relates to the old brewery which was close by ?? It would be an obvious source of bottles - some of these would probably be of some value now. It does seem a strange place for a dump. These are some old posting strings on the brewery and the river.

Was "The Three Pillars" near to the footbridge over the river or was it closer to the lake on the Newport Road side ? Do you remember the 'floating island' near the Newport Road shore ?
