It's interesting to see the power & pressure that local newspapers exerted in the past.For example,the Connaught Telegraph during the Civil War (1923)each week printed a list of names& addresses of the people who supported & who didn't support,the release of political prisioners.
Also,in 1944 the paper listed each week who & how much people gave towards the Church Restoration Fund.If a persons name didn't appear, no doubt it was the topic of conversation.
Thankfully,those days are gone but the pressure on people must have being huge.Does anyone remember these days or have any comment?
