Fairs in town were held up to the late 80s.
They spread from the bottom of Rush St ,down
Charles St all the way down to Barrack St to
the fairgreen.Tony Kenny used to have a bar
at the fairgren where he sold bottled beer
and along Springfield cattle were herded up
against the walls of the people living there.
The calf market was centered around the Rush
St Charles area long after the fairs ended.
Moores Almanac used to refer to the fairs at
that time in town. The bonamh market was intermingled with the calf market but was more
concentrated at the Kings bridge Inn end.
Around the bridge the baby chick market was
held. Those little yellow birds were a joy to
behold in their brown boxes accross from the
dilisk stall.Lovely time except for the mess
that was left after them.(not the cute chicks)
