ON JULY 9TH dr p j machale jp coroner,held an inquest on the body of a man washed ashore at pollacopple near belmullett....head constable connolly deposed......in consequence of a wire recieved by me from the coast guards at ballyglass i saw on the shore the body of a man on whom this inquestis being held.....i assisted the chief petty officerto search the body on which i found a gold watch ,a ring with the initials T B,,atravellers chequebook containing bills for 130 dollars on the Mellon national bank pitttsburg with the name thomas brownlee as holder ,a quarter dollar coin and a 5cents coin,a penknife,photograph in frame and a lead pencil......i communicated with the cunard line who replied that thomasbrownlee and his wife were second passengers on the lusitaniawhen she was torpedoed,,,both were lost and the bodies had not been recovered up to this .......CORONER.....its very hard to restrain ones feelings when we see this body lying here before us ...the innocent man and his wife were coming ,like so many others to,spend ,perhaps, a holiday a holiday with some friends when ,without any warning ,they were launched ,mercilessly,to an untimely end ..it is purely a piece of german piratical murder.......MR MC INTYRE......juror...the man like the other innocent passengers was barbarously murdered by the heartless germans......the jury returned a verdict of found dead and added,the deceased was a victim of german piracy...............on saturday morning the remains were interred at the protestant cemetery..as the hearse passed through the street,all business houses were shuttered,the blinds were drawn on private houses..........the funeral was attendedby all the representative people of the town,including the traders,officials,professionals and local gentry.....a shield on the coffin bore the inscription....THOMAS BROWNLEE LUSITANIA VICTIM
