The nightmare was about to begin 28 years ago this month with the arrival in Ireland of two Englishmen, John Shaw and Geoffrey Evans. The first victim was Elizabeth Plunkett a 23 year old Dublin woman.

The next victim was Mary Duffy of Castlebar. She was abducted at the junction of the Golf Links and Ballinrobe roads at Saleen while waiting for a lift home with her brother (?) She worked in a small coffee shop in the town. Her body was finally found in Lough Inagh, now a popular fishing and holiday destination, but in 1976 it was a lovely remote lake in Connemara. Shaw and Evans were eventually arrested in Galway and sentenced to life. I wonder if they are still in goal in Ireland ?
