Annie Kate Kelly

Kelly Annie Kate Kelly of Cuilmullagh, daughter of John Kelly and Ellen Flaherty; age on 1901 Census, 10 years. Annie boarded the titanic at Queenstown as a third class passenger. On the night of the colision Mary and Catherine Bourke refused to stay in the life boat 16 when they learned that John would have to stay onboard the titanic, Annie got their place. Annie was let out of hospital in New York, she made her way to Chicago, Illinois where her cousins Annie and Mary Garvey lived. Annie claimed the stewards did not wake them up in time the night of the disaster and when they made their way up on deck were told to go back as there was no danger. Annie joined the nuns and assumed the name of Sr. Joseph Patrick Kelly. She lived in Adrian, Michigan and died in December 1969.

Annie McGowan

Annie McGowan, daughter of John McGowan and Maria McGowan. She was born in 5th July 1897 in Scranton, Pennysylvania. She was travelling back to Chicago with her aunt Katherine McGowan who drowned in the disaster. Ann later married to Mr. Straube and died on Jan. 30th 1990 in Chicago, Illinois aged 92.

 

Bridget/Delia McDermott

Bridget/Delia McDermott, born 11-3-1881, Knockfarnaught; daughter of Michael McDermott and Bridget McDermott; aged 17 years on the 1901 Census. Miss McDermott survived and later married a man from Galway named Lynch. She had 3 children. She found a place in a lifeboat but remembered she had left her new hat that she had bought in Crossmolina back in her cabin, she returned for it and got a place in another lifeboat. Delia died in 1959.

This photo was taken by a passenger of the Carpathia, the ship that came to the rescue of the Titanic survivors. This is the last lifeboat successfully launched from the Titanic.
