Weather good all week and, with water levels dropping rapidly, the lower and middle stretches of the river fished best. Anglers fishing the shrimp had some excellent sport.

510 salmon were reported.

Heaviest fish by Adrian Barry, Swinford weighing 12.5 lbs.

Good bags by Mike Creane, England with 8 fish weighing 41 lbs and Ted Millard, England with 6 fish weighing 31.25 lbs.

Albert Witnall, Wales had 10 grilse up to 5 lbs on worms and spinners.

Dr. Tom Parry, Wales had 5 fish between 3 and 4 lbs.

Louis Inarta, Spain had a good days fishing with 3 fish weighing 11.5 lbs.

East Mayo Anglers' Association held a competition at the weekend.

Winner: Adrian Barry, Swinford with 4 fish weighing 22.5 lbs.

2nd: Thomas Rowley, Kiltimagh with four fish weighing 18.5 lbs.

Lough Conn

Most anglers have lost interest in fishing this water at the moment as, traditionally, early July has always been considered a lull period. However, there are still some Mayflies hatching and the few anglers out had some good sport.

31 trout reported.

Richard Binley and David Slack had 4 trout - best 1.75 lbs - and rose a lot more fish.

Dr. Tom Parry, Wales had 3 fish - best 2.5 lbs, all on a Golden Olive Bumble.

Lough Arrow

Sedge fishing on this water is now starting late in the evenings and, if one is in the right place for a short time late in the evening, some good sport can be had.

15 trout weighing 25.25 lbs were reported.

Best fish by David Gray, Ballindoon weighing 2.75 lbs on a Green Peter.

Lough Beltra & Newport River

24 salmon caught.

Best fish 10.5 lbs by Peter Nolens.

Gay Epaulde had 3 fish weighing 7 lbs, 4.5 lbs and 3.5 lbs.
