Castlebar man to referee hurling final Croke Park
Congratulations to our club mate Eoin Shaughnessy who will referee the Junior Club All-Ireland final in Croke Park on Sunday March 11th. Eoin, after a distinguished hurling career for Mitchels and Mayo, took up refereeing two years ago and has been progressing quickly up the ranks. Congratulations also to his faithful umpire Ray Coy who is also making his Croke Park debut. We wish both of them the best of luck.

The league has now concluded and the details for the semi-finals will be posted shortly. It has been a really successful winter league and the club would like to thank Padraig Gavin of Ballinasloe for all his organising.

The Mitchels under 16s got off to a good start and led by five points at half time. Ballyhaunis never gave up though and came at Mitchels in the second half. Brave defending though by captain Darren McTigue, centre back James Lowe and midfielder Stephen Fitzgerald saw Mitchels safely through to the semi-finals of the Suck Valley Cup.

Castlebar Mitchels lost their final group game to a more determined home side in Ballyhaunis. Castlebar found it difficult to raise their game to the level shown in previous rounds.Mitchels got off to the perfect start when Eoin Lisibach found the net with a lob from 40 yards out. This however only served to spur on the home side who gradually came back to level the scores at half time with 3 pointed frees.
Again Ballyhaunis had the edge in the second half and kept the pressure on the Castlebar defence. This eventually bore results with 3 further points to the home side to leave them deserved winners at the end.
Barry Lane played well in goals & kept another clean sheet. Joseph Redmond, Darragh O’Malley and David Bell were prominent in defence. Mitchels struggled at midfield and never fully came to terms with the home pairing in this area, although Tony Sweeney tried hard. In the attack which was deprived of any decent supply of possession Eoin Lisibach and Conor Mylett looked dangerous at times.

Foundation Coaching Course
A Foundation Level Hurling Coaching Course will run in Claremorris GAA Clubhouse commencing on Monday evening 5th March at 8pm. The course is open to all beginner coaches, nursery coaches, assistant club coaches, national school teachers and team coaches all the way up to U-16 level. If anybody is interested contact Fr.
