TAG RUGBY LEAGUE 2005
The tag rugby league began at the same time as the 6 nations did there were 12 teams so it was called the 12 nations my team was Scotland and we got through to the final there was a league at the start which my team came 4th in the league and was just outside the automatic qualification so we had to qualify almost all of the teams who qualified beat the team that qualified automatically. It was Scotland and the
U.S.A. in the Final and U.S.A. won.

Our school has always been synonymous with sports activities of all kinds and this year was another hectic one with leagues in gaelic football, tag rugby, soccer, hurling, basketball and a new one for us--table tennis. It is to the great credit of all involved that much of this work takes place during lunchtime and after school. Long may our school continue to excel in this vital area for all children but especially boys.

The Hurling Year
This year we enjoyed a good hurling year where we were unlucky to get knocked out in the semi-final of the mini-sevens losing to Tooreen national school. Then after that the A-team had qualifying round with Ballina and Ballyhaunis national schools both which we bet convincingly after that we were drawn in a semi-final with Snugboro who we drew with after a convincing performance. The week after the replay was on  which we lost by three points. Snugboro were leading 3-1 to no score after ten minutes but we made some changes and were losing by two goals at the break. In the second half we made a comeback.

Report from Ribena Soccer--By Richard McGreal

On Tuesday the 14th of June 2005 eight lads represented the school in the All Ireland Ribena 5 aside competition in Navan Co. Meath. To get to Navan we had to play in the connaughts, which were held in Manulla. We had to play a team from Galway and a team from Sligo. We drew with Galway and beat Sligo with two goals from Adam McGowan and a goal from Roy Cresham. We were presented with the cup and a new set of Ribena jerseys for our games in Navan. We travelled to Navan with our coaches Mr.Canning and Mr.Cogan. It

took us roughly 3 ˝ hours to get there. Our first match was against St.Dermots of Waterford, which we lost with a goal  in the last five minutes. Our second match was against Kennedy Park, which we lost 3-1. Our third match and final match was against Letterkenny of Donegal, which ended up 1-1. Overall we finished 3d in Ireland which is brilliant.

SNR TABLE--TENNIS LEAGUE

A table tennis table was purchased this year--the very first (of many to come) to be acquired by our school. A senior table tennis league for fifth and sixth was organised and run on a round robin basis at lunchtimes during the months of March, April an May. The competition proved a great success and the atmosphere for the finals was super. From an original entry of 60 boys, the group who qualified for the finals consisted of Eoin Lisibach, Richard McGreal, Oisín Ferriter and Kevin Keena. Eoin and Kevin fought out an exciting final with Kevin being declared the first ever St. Patrick's Table Tennis Champion.
After this initial success, it is hoped to purchase at least two more tables in September and provide opportunities for as many boys who wish to get involved in a great social activity. Who knows where it will lead!

Junior Basketball League 2005

Following on from the successful revival of the Senior Basketball League (5th-6th Classes) it was decided to organise an after school league for the Junior Classes (3rd-4th). There was great excitement leading up to the commencement of the league as many of these boys had not played in a competitive basketball match previously. 80 pupils took on the challenge initially and really enjoyed participating. There skill level proved to be very high and the competition was keen throughout. The quarter-finals saw teams captained by Patrick Cronnolly, Luke Benson, Jake Gannon,

Bryan O'Malley, Ryan Coleman, Ashley Jensen, Patrick Durkan and James Durkan attempt to reach the last four. The final, which was watched by both fourth and both third classes was a very exciting one between Jake Gannon and Ryan Coleman with Jake's team proving too strong on the day. They were the first to be presented with the new Junior Perpetual Shield.
