ART IN OUR SCHOOL

OUR TWO HP CAMERA PRIZEWINNERS

My Digital Camera
On Tuesday I went up to Ballybrit Business Park for my camera. H.P were the people who were giving away the prizes. There were winners from Limerick, Galway, Clare and Mayo. I won the over third class in Mayo. Another person in our school won the third in the
under 10 competition. My camera has recording and its zoom is class. There was a clown there and she was crazy. We got free Frisbees, cd holders and goodie bags. But the goodie bags weren't that good because there was only oranges and
Capri-suns.
After the ceremony I went to
Supermac's. I ate a lot. I liked the camera.

VISITOR TO OUR SCHOOL

Wood Carving Exhibition.
There is an exciting exhibition going on in the school at the moment. One of our parents, Vincent O'Callaghan, has brought in some of his wood carvings and they are on exhibition in the front hall of the school at the moment. They are attracting great
interest as they of a very high quality. We hope to get  Vincent to come into the school in September and give a talk to the pupils about his work and hopefully we will have some workshops around this.

Around Christmas time, a lady from the Mayo County Council called Bernie Garvey O'Mara came to our school. She showed us a number of paintings she had painted herself which were hung around the school. They were all the same style of paintings but contained completely different scenes. We all had to pick our favourite one and then paint our own version of it. After we had seen all of her paintings we went into the Hall and started painting our own paintings. We used odd objects to do this, like credit cards and knives. The reason we were using credit cards and knives is because the credit cards gave a wavy effect and I think the knives were meant to do the same thing but there weren't enough credit cards. There were about five tables in the Hall so there were about five people at a desk. Nearly all the people at my desk did a painting which looked

like palm trees growing out of the wavy sea. They turned out pretty well but not as good as Olga's (Olga is Paddy's English teacher). She also teaches art in some of the classrooms in our school. She does art in our class quite a lot and is obviously very good. So what she painted, was a fish at the bottom of the sea swimming around with reeds from the seabed. She used a credit card to make the reeds so they looked as though they were moving around in the sea. Everyone thought it was brilliant. So at the end of the day I'd say that everyone had a good time and were pleased with their paintings- because I know I did!
