Sporting organisations holding events for the co-ordinated Tsunami Goal Fund continue to come up with unique and novel ideas.

"It’s fantastic to contribute to a co-ordinated effort for a good cause," said Paddy Mahon from Castlebar Tennis Club. The Castlebar Club held a competition night last week which raised €711 for the cause.

"The minority sports, such as Tennis are making a huge effort in organising events" said Charlie Lambert Sports Co-ordinator for the Mayo Sports Partnership, who are facilitating the initiative. Lambert describes the novel idea by the Castlebar Aces and Westaro Basketball Clubs to hold an exhibition match between a team of Castlebar Publicans against a team of Councillors on February 19th in the De La Salle Hall.

"We were looking for a different idea to attract people to an event" said Deirdre Conway from Castlebar Aces. "We’ll be contributing the proceeds from the National League Match as well as the Charity Match" Conway went on to say.

Other events taking place in the next weeks include another novel idea by The Beech Leisure Club in Westport Woods Hotel, to spend a night in a haunted Castle in Co. Offaly. While Castlebar Swimming Club will be hosting a swim challenge over the weekend of February 18th – February 20th.

Any clubs groups etc organising events are asked to contact Charlie Lambert with details at 094-9047543
