Starting this Thursday July 4th and running for the next 7 weeks, Castlebar Mitchels Hurling Club are running a summer project titled 'Hurling on the Green'. The object of this project is to provide the children of Castlebar with an opportunity to play hurling, while having lots of fun, in their own local area, at little or no cost.

Lots of clubs and different bodies are providing summer camps for children at various prices. Sadly not all families can afford the cost of these camps and many children may feel left out. We endeavor to have the project sponsored so that cost would not be a problem for any children. We feel that it is important also to try and bring the project to the local 'green areas' within the town for the benefit of the children, their parents and the community.

We will have three coaches involved in the project:

Steve McKeogh is a Clare man. He is a member of our Senior team and is coaching our U-14 team. He is at present studying for his Masters degree in G.M.I.T. Castlebar.

Daithi Hughes is a P.E. teacher. He is a member of our senior team and is also coaching at under 14 level in the club.

Martin Greany is from Breaffy. He is a member of the Mayo and Castlebar Mitchels senior hurling panels and is a student in G.M.I.T. Galway.

The project will take place on the following 'Green Areas',

Rowan Drive

on Thursdays

July 4, 11, 18, 25, August 1, 8, 15;

Chestnut Grove

on Fridays

July 5, 12, 19, 26, August 2, 9, 16;

St. Bridgits Crescent

on Mondays

July 8, 15, 22, 29, August 5, 12;

The Mall

on Tuesdays

July 9, 16, 23, 30, August 6, 13.

Normal training will still take place each Wednesday @ 6pm in Top Pitch of McHale Park. There will be 2 daily sessions (children are welcome to come to one or both)
Session 1. 10am - 11.30am
Session 2. 12noon - 1.30pm
All sessions are free for club members. Membership costs €10 euros.
