The pub was owned by the King family.Paddy King opened it during the 1930's and his son Richard (or Dick as he's also known)managed it until the 1980's. Paddy was a great character & very much involved with Castlebar Mitchells GAA Club..The pub did have a great atmosphere with alot of its customers from the County Council & from McHale Road.A few regular customers from that time who have now passed away were George Bartley,Jack Cassidy,Jack Kinsella - all from McHale Road,Michael O'Morain, former Government Minister - politics & G.A.A were often discussed with hilarious results. Dick and his lovely wife Bridie are both in good health & are now residing in the Curragh,Castlebar. They raised a very large family - twelve in all, most of whom are still living in Castlebar.Dick's son Pat also was the first Mayor of the Town.
