i am also too young to remember eating slabs of toffee....however i have very happy memories of visiting Mai Leonards in castle street on the way home form school at st angelas. 10p went a long way in those days....we used to get 4 licquorice pellets for 1p.I have vague recollection of her brother living there or frequently visiting her there in my earlier years. has anybody got any recollection of this?? may she rest in peace she certainly was one "sweet lady" in more ways than one.
