Beestings. This is an expression that I recently learned about."The first milk secreted by a mammal, especially a cow, after parturition; colostrum."Dilisk( a reddish dried seaweed) was commonly sold on the streets of Castlebar during market days or on a Friday with fish.We also gathered it at the seaside in Lecanvey as well as carrigeen moss which my mother made into a white blancmange.I much preferred the dilisk.I have since used the dilisk in soups. Dont know anything about the mountainy sedge though, Chris.
