Excellent posting of an old & distinguished Castlebar family.
The proprietor Joseph H. Dwyer was married to Sabrina Walshe, who’s family owned a bakery in Castle Street in the early 1900’s.
Incidentally, the coach-building premises on Ellison Street was supposed to be the residence of a medical doctor in 1798.
Mr. Dwyer was responsible for a no.of patents for the improvement of horse-drawn vehicles & one was purchased from him by the British War Museum. He was also an excellent amateur actor & took part in a lot of dramas in the Town Hall.
He also at one stage owned the property in Mountain View, which is now occupied by the Egan family.
Finally, he had & presumably has, a lot o relations in Castlebar as he was related to the Gilligans, Blackfort, Loftus’s formally of Mental Hospital Gate Lodge, Twiggs, Duke St., and the Dwyers, Castle Street.
