Looking through old newspapers,it appears that cycling on the Mall was a big no-no down the years.Numerous special meetings of the UDC were called and this remained one of the first items on the agenda.Even in 1969,witnesses were called to a hastily convened UDC meeting to recount how dangerous it was - a woman had two children knocked down at the same time and even Padraig Flynn stated how he witnessed bicycle racing around the Mall, after midnight.Was it really that dangerous?
