Eamon Comber

Posted by Ted on April 11, 2011 at 13:58:45:

I came across an interesting man while searching Irish News Archive online. Eamon Comber from Castlebar fought in the 1916 Rising and I was wondering does anybody know of him.

According to the 1901 and 1911 Census, there was a Comber family living in 8 Poorhouse Hill (Knockthomas). The father of that family, James Comber (b.c.1851) was a baker.

The Freeman's Journal of 29th January 1924 notes that an anniversary requiem mass was held for Mr. Comber in Castlebar and that he died as a result of his treatment in prison (presumably imprisoned for his part in the Rising).
