The first dance (not sure if it was a Hop)I think took place was in early June 1944 to mark the opening of Castlebar Lawn Tennis Club. Madame Bourke provided the music and other locals that contributed on the night included Joe Chambers, T Gavin, Mattie Armstrong, Dan Daly , Gussie Wynne and the M.C.; J Young.
