Reading back messages jogged some memories. The carnival used to be held on the mall before it was
moved to the barracks. When it rained the place became a mire and the beauth of the mall was destroyed.
There was a carnival in the barracks the year the Russians launched sputnik and I remember people were
very excited and looking skywards looking for a moving star. A little later the Russians launched Laika into
space where the poor dog eventaully died. The boy's National School moved to the barracks around 1956
or 1957. No centrally heated school rooms -turf fires only, and tough if you were sitting beside a door or
a window.
