Freshly cut grass on the mall.
And less memorable - the inescapable odour of bonemeal from the bacon factory and who remembers what we called the "shark lorries" from Achill which crawled through the town on hot summer days with the leftovers of basking sharks from the processing plant at Purteen. One lorry broke down in Newtown on a warm weekend and almost caused a mass evacuation.
