We are trying to trace some information on my Great-great Grandfather, Robert Nixon who was married in Castlebar in 1829. He left Ireland by boat in 1930 to Quebec. Eventually, he made it to California. Are there any records of marriages available in Castlebar that we might be able to trace his wife's name? We think they were married in a Methodist church. Before the famine, right? Thanks for any info.

Dear Sir

I have recently been made aware that a burial record of the graveyard attached to Carracastle Parish church has re-emerged, it having been assumed that the volume was lost.
I am very interested in at least establishing where this volume is stored and the degree of access allowed to the public for research purposes. My family, the Clossicks hailed from Carrowntubber a couple of miles away and a clear record of the burial plot/dates of my great, great grandfather would help my research enormously. Tom Gara who used to dig the graves died some years back. He was a great friend of my mother and when he died it was thought that the record of the plots of what is referred to as the 'old graveyard', was handed to the council in Castlebar and was subsequently mislaid!
