Castlebar Musical and Dramatic Society will hold open auditions on Monday 25th and Tuesday 26th August at 7pm in the TF Royal Hotel, Castlebar for their upcoming musical 'Oklahoma!' The musical society was newly established in July of this year and their first production is an ambitious project which will run from the 4th-6th December in the TF Royal Theatre.
Alanna Ní Mhíocháin, who will be directing ‘Oklahoma!', was very enthusiastic about the upcoming production. "This is a brand new society so we are starting from scratch. We are looking for lots of new members! Anyone who has an interest in music, singing, dancing, drama or performing is more than welcome to attend the auditions - whether they are looking for a staring role or to join the chorus. We will also welcome anyone who has an interest in set-design, costume, make-up or backstage work."
Adrian Gavin, Chairman of Castlebar Musical and Dramatic Society, was delighted with the establishment of the new community group. "This new society will build on previous Tops-of-the-Town and musical productions that have been held in Castlebar over the years. There is so much musical and dramatic talent in the local area and we want this group to be a way to showcase this talent."
Sarah Ronayne, secretary of the new society, emphasised the inclusive ethos of the group. "We really want this group to be open and inviting to anyone in the community who wishes to join. As we are so newly founded, there are lots of opportunities for people to get involved in so many different ways and we would love to hear from anyone interested in taking part."
Anyone who is curious about the society can find out more from their facebook page or website www.cmds.ie. Audition materials for Rodgers and Hammerstein's classic musical ‘Oklahoma!' will also be posted on the website for anyone looking for a principal role.
