GAELBHRATACH

A new scheme for primary and second level schools, funded by Foras na Gaeilge and organised by Gael Linn

Vision (Primary Level)

· To foster respect for the Irish language throughout the school
· To teach the Irish language through the medium of Irish
· To use the Primary School Curriculum to teach conversational Irish that serves the needs of the children
· To enable the children to spontaneously use the Irish language they learn, in order
to communicate with each other,within the school community and with the wider community outside

Post Primary Level

· To foster respect for the Irish language throughout the school
· To teach the Irish language through the medium of Irish
· To enable the children to use the Irish they learn with confidence, in order to communicate with each other,
within the school community, and with the wider community outside.
· To support teachers in their work with the scheme.
· To encourage secondary level schools to promote the use of the Irish language throughout the school,
and in the local community, in such a way that is planned, continuous and enjoyable.


Síomha Ní Mhuirí has been employed by Gael Linn as Project Manager to implement the scheme for primary schools and Siún Ní Shé has been employed to implement the scheme for secondary schools. Gael Linn is grateful to Conradh na Gaeilge for its co-operation in the organisation of the second level scheme. Between the two levels over 70 schools are taking part in the pilot scheme. It is hoped that a further small number of schools will become involved each year to add to those schools already taking part. The following are the Project Managers details:
