Castlebar Rotary Remembrance Tree - A Ribbon to Remember

Castlebar Rotary Club's flagship fundraising project Rotary Tree of Remembrance will run again this year, from Saturday December 17th to Friday 23rd December for the ninth year in succession. The outstanding success of this event in previous years has made it a permanent feature in the Rotary Club's calendar.

At this time of year everyone has some one they would like to have remembered, either a loved one who has died, a family member who has emigrated or a relative or friend who may be in hospital or who is unable to make it home for Christmas. They can do this by placing a ribbon on the Rotary Tree of Remembrance and writing the name of a loved one on a card to put in a special box. In return, people are requested to make a small donation towards the Rotary Club's charitable fund with all funds raised donated to local charities. Since the Rotary Tree of Remembrance started in 2008 it has raised more than €16,000 for local charities. All cards in the secure box will be brought to 10am Mass on Christmas Eve in the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar where the intentions on the cards will be prayed for.

This year, all proceeds will be distributed to Rock Rose House, Family Carers Ireland, ISPCC, & Irish Pilgrimage Trust. The Rotary Tree of Remembrance will again be located on Hopkins Road, outside New Look.

Rotary Club President Fiona Byrnes, in launching the event, said: "This project is unique in that it affords people an opportunity to remember their loved ones in a very tangible way while at the same time contributing to worthwhile local charities. This year, for the first time, people will be able to take away a specially made Remembrance Card which can be given or passed on to loved ones in memory of the event. We are again appealing to the people of Castlebar and all visitors to the Town during this festive period to take some time out and visit us on Hopkins Road to take part in this very unique project"
