The Chernobyl Fashion Show which was held in the T.F. Royal Theatre last week was hailed a huge success by young and old. Adi Roche Volunteer CEO Chernobyl Children International (CCI) gave a very moving speech on the work the organisation do in the Vesnova Orphanage and the Community programmes they support. Maria Walsh our very own Rose of Tralee who was a guest at the Fashion show was a big hit with everyone. President Michael D. Higgins and Miss Ireland even put in an appearance via the talented and hilarious Frank Forde. Henry McGlade compered the night with the professionalism which he is known for. We were also treated to futuristic designs by local girl Elaine Cawley from Breaffy who has recently graduated from the National College of Art and Design, a very talented designer to look out for.

"Our group started in 1996 and since then we have hosted approximately 240 children from Belarus with families in Castlebar on the Rest and Recuperation programme. We also support Vesnova orphanage and helped start the deinstitutionalisation by part funding a house for young adults in the local community. The funds raised on the night will go towards next summer's programme as we hope to bring 4 young adults from this community house. Any remaining funds will go towards community programmes to help families to care for their children in loving homes instead on institutions" said Ann Coleman Group Leader.
