The All Ireland Youth Road Championships 2010 took place in Coalisland, Co. Tyrone on August 28th & 29th. Almost 150 cyclists from across Ireland competed for the honour of National Champion's Jersey's in the Time Trial, Criterium, and Road Race across the U11, U12, U13, U14, U15, and U16 categories.

Castlebar Cycling Club was well represented with 17 young cyclists taking part. The team all travelled to Coalisland on Friday evening and stayed for the weekend in race headquarters at the Cohannon Inn. The teams did extremely well over the two days with Paul Mc Donagh taking sixth in the u16 time trial, Karl Benson took fourth in the u13 road race and the highlight of the weekend coming on Sunday with Liam Corcoran's win in the U15 Road Race. The race ended in a bunch sprint with Liam crossing the line in first place. Liam's win would not have been possible without the help of his team mates Fintan Murphy and Paul Murray. It was a great weekend of fun and cycling for all involved with the club.

The National Youth Road Championship proved to be a huge success and this was thanks to the huge amount of effort put in by the promoting club's, the Youth Commission, the Sponsors and all those associated with the weekend, especially all the young riders who give it their very best over the two days of competition.

On the senior men's racing front Castlebar C.C. had three cyclists at The Charville two day (two road races and a time trial) last weekend, Chris Troy, Ciaran Clarke and Rory Conroy, all completed the race with Chris 3rd in the time trial and 6th overall in the general classification.

Forthcoming events; Ladies only cycle next Saturday 11th,1.5 hrs cycle, introduction and easy, meet at Casey's garage on the old Turlough 9.30am

Charity Cycle in aid of Western Care Sept 17th and 18th, details from club sec. John Brennan 094 9025966.
