Westport hosts National CCI Conference
Westport will host the annual national conference of the Chambers of Commerce of Ireland on 1st-2nd Nov. It is the second time in five years that the prestigious event has come to the County Mayo town. The venue is Hotel Westport and delegates will attend from every county in Ireland and from several parts of Northern Ireland.
New strategies needed to further increase Mayo tourism numbers
Despite its growing reputation as a tourist destination, the county of Mayo attracts less than one quarter of the revenue generated from the number of overseas visitors who come to the Ireland-West region. 70% of tourism revenue goes to County Galway, 24% to County Mayo and just 6% to County Roscommon. Richard O'Hara, Chairman of Mayo County Tourism Committee said there still remained a huge challenge for Mayo to gain greater market share.
Court hears how Crossmolina cow was brought back from the dead.
Several defendants appeared before a sitting of Foxford District Court last week in a case where a cow which was apparently slaughtered in July 2000 appeared miraculously at another meat factory a month later.
