The Mountaineering Club are hosting what promises to be a very interesting evening this Tuesday 28th, as Paul Dunlop is presenting a slide show in the College at 8.00 p.m.

Paul is one of the country’s leading climbers, having climbed all over the world, and was a member of the Irish K2 Expedition. His slide show will include pictures and stories from his many trips. Admission is €5 and €2 for students

The Womens Gaelic Football team continued their preparation for their up-coming All-Ireland Semi-final clash with Marino College of Dublin, with a tough challenge against N.U.I.G. Although the Galway Girls play a division higher it was a very worthwhile game and the gap was not at all obvious for most of the game. Starting well with commanding performances from Deirdre Harmon and Deirdre Kenneally in midfield it was a very evenly matched first half and scores from Mairead McGinty and a couple from Deirdre McGrath would have had Castlebar ahead at half time but for a late deflection which resulted in a Galway goal. The loss of influential Centre Half Back Maeve Murphy was a huge blow and coupled with the strong wind at their back the second half belonged mainly to Galway. But excellent defending from Michelle Doyle Lorraine Lee and Marcella Troy as well as vital stops from Keeper Evelyn Bonnar frustrated the Galway girls for long spells. It was a very creditable performance and the girls are looking forward to their All-Ireland date with some confidence.

There is a very busy week ahead with the eagerly awaited Trench Cup showdown against Portobello going ahead in Breaffy on Wednesday the 29th, Throw in at 2.30 . The men have been training hard for this match and a trip to Derry awaits the winners. It promises to be a great game and everyone’s support would be appreciated. There will be buses running from the college for supporters.

The Rugby team is also out on Wednesday as they entertain N.U.I.G. in a re-scheduled game at Castlebar Rugby Club at 2.30. After a lot of training this will be their first competitive game and the lads are very much looking forward to it.

Thursday sees the hurlers take the long trip to Dundalk For a Ryan Cup First round match with a tie against Carlow the prize for the victor’s.

The basketballers are on the road as well with men’s and women’s clashes with Dublin Institute of Technology.

The Womens Soccer team start what’s is going to be Fairly hectic schedule with a home game against Sligo on Thursday before traveling to Dublin on Sunday to face Trinity and Maynooth in intervarsity qualifiers.

Fourteen hardy souls braved the strong Winds at Carrowniskey last Friday to get some practice in before the Four College Surfing event in Bundoran. And finally congrats to Tom Pittam Who won his category in the Kayaking Rodeo held in Ballina last Sunday.
