Played Saturday

UCD Waves 0-1 Wexford Youths Women's AFC

WEXFORD Youth's Women sit top of the Continental Tyres Women's National League after their victory over UCD Waves on Saturday night.

The Model County side inflicted a first home defeat on UCD Waves in a tight encounter at Jackson Park.

Carol Breen's second goal of the season came in stoppage time and propelled Wexford Youths to top spot. In the process it declared Willie Doyle's side as challengers for this year's title.

Wexford had the best of the first half chances with Claire O'Riordan and Asling Frawley both coming close to opening the scoring.

Mary Rose Kelly was a major influence for the visitors as she kept out Aine O'Gorman's penalty after the break before Breen struck in stoppage time to claim the three points.

Elsewhere, Katie McCabe grabbed her third hat-trick of the season as champions Raheny United moved into second place with a 4-1 win away to Peamount United.

McCabe opened the scoring for the Pandas on 15 minutes with Amber Barrett equalising for Peas 20 minutes later with her sixth goal of the season.

Ireland U19 star McCabe grabbed her second of the day, just after the restart with Noelle Murray making it 3-1 on 67 minutes. McCabe then sealed her hat-trick 12 minutes from time.

Meanwhile, Castlebar Celtic moved off the foot of the table and claimed the bragging rights with a  4 -3 victory over Western rivals Galway WFC.

Rachel Kearns gave Celtic the lead after 10 minutes as the visitors raced into a 3-0 half time lead. Emma Hansberry doubled Castlebar's lead nine minutes later, with Aoife Herbert making it three from the spot on 43 minutes after Hansberry had been fouled.

Marie Curtin got Galway back into it ten minutes into the second half from the penalty spot before Herbert appeared to put it beyond the hosts with a 60th minute strike.

Galway battled to the end with Susie Cunningham finding the net on 90 minutes and Ruth Fahy netting in stoppage time to end a seven goal thriller.

Celtic held out for their first win of the season as they catapult Galway WFC and Cork City Women's FC off the bottom of the table.
