Castlebar's Drop-in Choir will present their summer concert in Christchurch, Castlebar on Thursday 14th June at 8pm. The concert will feature a range of special guests, including the Westport Singers. Entry is free, with donations to Chernobyl Children International appreciated.

The Mayo School of Music in Lough Lannagh Village, Castlebar, provides the setting for the Drop-in Choir to meet for their rehearsals. Their chosen pieces for this concert range from classical material by Mozart to works from the golden age of Hollywood, to a Japanese song from the eleventh century. The Drop-in Choir is directed by classically-trained Lithuanian soprano Aušra Kvietkute, who is also a piano teacher at the Mayo School of Music. An accomplished pianist, she has accompanied many choirs, including the Westport Children's Choir, the Mayo School of Music Youth Choir and the Cill Aodáin Choral Society. She is also a member of the vocal ensemble VoxFusion. Aušra commented "I am excited to be working with this group of women who share a wonderful enthusiasm for singing. We look forward to welcoming Adrian Vernon Fish, composer, Greenland cultural explorer and broadcaster, who will accompany the choir for the evening".

A variety of guests will perform at the concert. These include the Westport Singers, under the direction of Joseph Garvey, Bettina Peterseil, who will read poetry on the night, and harpist Emma Lawlor. Violinist Iain King, originally from Scotland but now living near Ballina, will also perform on the night. He has played with the Philharmonic Orchestra (first chair) and the English Chamber Orchestra (assistant leader).

A beautiful night of music is in store and the Drop-in Choir look forward to welcoming you to the charming surroundings of Christchurch, Castlebar, in support of an excellent cause.
