Join artists in creating a series of site-specific works on the grounds of the National Museum of Ireland - Country Life. These drop-in workshops will take place over a number of weeks until August 2012 and are suitable for all the family to enjoy. http://www.museum.ie/en/list/project-onsight.aspx WORKSHOP DETAILS: WEAVE with Artist Merovee Guerin Wednesday 13th &Thursday 14th June, 11am-4pm Wednesday 20th June, Thursday 21st June, Friday 22 June, 11am-4pm, Tuesday 10th July, Wednesday 11th July, Tuesday 24th July, Wednesday 25th July & Thursday 26th July, 11am-4pm. Participants are invited to weave a thread or two. Learn some basic weaving techniques and help create a large-scale woven piece. SILK PAINTING with artist Brid Kivneen Thursday 14th June, 11am-4pm Saturday 7th July & Friday 3rd August, 11am-4pm Participants will be asked to choose a theme or item from the museum as an inspiration for a silk painting. LEAVES AN IMPRESSION with MAYO ARTSQUAD Saturday 23rd June, Saturday 21st July, 11am -4pm. This workshop, which will be led by Barbra, will make plaster moulds of large leaves taken from plants growing in the wild. The finished works will then be presented as an installation on the museum grounds. TURN IN THE BREEZE with MAYO ARTSQUAD Saturday 23rd June, Sunday 24th June: 11am - 4pm (12pm - 5pm on Sundays) Tuesday 17th July, Wednesday 18th July, Thursday 19th July: 11am - 4pm (12pm - 5pm on Sundays) Participants will help create a visual feast of windmills sited on the museum grounds. The aim is to make 1000 windmills and then create an installation of finished works on site. RENEW with artist TOM MESKELL Tuesday 26th June, Wednesday 27th June & Thursday 28th June: 11am-4pm . This will be a large scale installation work sited on the museum grounds. Participants will paint and decorate sticks found on site. Finished pieces will be assembled to create the finished work. WILLOW IN BLUE with artist JODI COYNE Friday 6th July (3.30-4.45pm) & Saturday 7th July (11am - 4pm). Capacity: 8 participants per workshop. First-come, first served. Learn how to create a modern wall piece based on the traditional style of blue and white tableware. Participants will be asked to take an image or a story from the museum as an inspiration for the piece. Works will be exhibited in the Museum Café gallery in late summer 2012. The spaces are limited on this workshop and it must be booked in advance by contacting the Museum's Bookings Office (094 903 1751). Places will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. PRAYER BOATS with artist TOMMY CASBY Friday 3rd August, Friday 10th August , Friday 17th August & Friday 24th August: 11am-4pm. The aim of the workshop is to build an artistic interpretation of reed/coracle boats as viewed in the museum. Participants are invited to take part in building these pieces using locally sourced natural materials. The finished work will be displayed on site. DROP IN EVENT. NO BOOKING REQUIRED.
