Comhdháil Lae:
Gaeltachtaí Mhaigh Eo: mar atá, mar a bheidh.
Ard-Mhúsaem na hÉireann - Saol na Tuaithe, Páirc Thurlaigh, Caisleán an Bharraigh, Contae Mhaigh Eo.
Dé hAoine 25 Aibreán 2008 (9.30rn – 5.00in)
Le blianta beaga anuas tá ceantair Ghaeltachta na hÉireann ag athrú in éindí leis an gcuid eile den tír. Ciallaíonn na hathruithe atá ag tarlú go bhfuil an Ghaeilge ag teacht faoi bhrúnna nua atá méadaithe sna ceantair sin. Tá Gaeltachtaí beaga Mhaigh Eo atá scartha óna chéile go háirithe faoi bhrú. An mairfidh Gaeilge shainiúil Mhaigh Eo mar theanga phobail i nGaeltachtaí Mhaigh Eo tríd an 21ú céad nó an dtiocfaidh deireadh le traidisiún ársa a théann siar na mílte bliain?
Beidh an chomhdháil lae seo ag iarraidh solas a chaitheamh ar ‘Ghaeltachtaí dearmadta’ Mhaigh Eo le páipéir á gcur i láthair ó speisialtóirí sa ghort agus ó dhaoine ó cheantair Ghaeltacht Mhaigh Eo iad féin, le hiarracht staid na Gaeilge sna ceantair sin, mar aon lena bhfuil i ndán di mar theanga labhartha iontu, a mheas.
Is as Gaeilge a thabharfar páipéir na comhdhála.
Aithnítear le buíochas cúnamh RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta don chomhdháil.
Saor-chead isteach ach is gá áit a chur in áirithe roimh-ré

One-day conference:
The Gaeltachtaí of Mayo: as they are, as they will be.
National Museum of Ireland - Country Life, Turlough Park, Castlebar, Co. Mayo.
Friday 25 April 2008 (9.30am – 5.00pm)
In recent years the Gaeltacht districts of Ireland are changing along with the rest of the country. The changes happening have meant new and increased pressures on the Irish language in these areas. The small and separated Gaeltacht districts of Mayo are particularly vulnerable. Will the distinctive Irish of Mayo survive as a community language in the Mayo Gaeltachtaí through the 21st century or will it see the end of a tradition that goes back several thousand years?
This day conference seeks to shed light on the forgotten Gaeltachtaí of Mayo with presentations from specialists in the field as well as from members of the Mayo Gaeltacht communities, in an effort to assess the situation of the Irish language and its prospects of survival in those districts.
The conference papers will be delivered in the Irish language.
The support of RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta is gratefully acknowledged.
