Bring and Buy Proceeds 2010

Donation to the Cross Cause Charity
c/o Aisling Neary, one of our past pupils
and also to Castlebar Rotary Club
to help them in their ongoing work in South Africa.


Aisling Neary, a past pupil of St. Angela's came to visit us. She told us about her charity work in Ghana, India and Romania. We were touched. Aisling told us she travelled to different villages, checking people's blood pressure before sending them to get their eyes tested when she was in Ghana. She explained how it is a very poor country and there are very few hospitals or schools so she has decided that she will return and help to build a clinic and a school. Aisling took the names and ages of all the children living in one of the very poor villages in Ghana and bought each of them a Christmas present and an outfit, as they wouldn't have very many clothes. We all thought this was a lovely thing to do. After Aisling had told us all about her charity work, the principal announced our donation of €1000 from money raised by our Cake Sale and Bring and Buy to help Aisling on her way. She was thrilled. She thanked us sincerely and we were happy we could help. She will send us pictures, letter and videos of how the construction is coming along and how the money we raised is making a difference. Her charity is called 'Cross Cause'.

The Sixth Classes also very kindly donated the remainder of their Bring and Buy fund to the Castlebar Rotary Club to help them in thier ongoing work in South Africa. Members of the Rotary Club came to visit us also and educated us about their work in South Africa. Here is their report.

On Friday the 10th of December Fr John Kilcoyne and members of the 'Castlebar Rotary Club' visited our school. Fr John Kilcoyne spoke about life in South African Townships.
The members of the 'Rotary Club' presented the sixth classes a slideshow about South African Townships. The images portrayed to us the poor conditions the people live in. Everyone there seemed very happy, especially the children. Some of the children proudly sang their national anthem to the 'Rotary Club'. Some of the images portrayed how poorly built their houses were. They were made of tin and scrap metal. The houses were about as small as a tool shed. A curtain separated the eating area from the very compact bedroom. Many of the children’s clothes were donated. Fr Kilcoyne and the 'Rotary Club' are planning a five-year project that involves building houses, improving health care and facilities for the people of Ruttensburg. Both sixth classes presented them a cheque of five hundred euros, which we raised during our annual 'Bring and Buy' and also the 'Cake Sale'.
We are very proud to be a part of this 'KOPO Project'.
