September Newsletter 2013

Dear Parents,

Failte romhaibh go léir ar ais! Welcome back and we look forward to another great school year.

We were contacted by the Inspectorate from the Department of Education and Skills at the end of June to inform us we would be having a Whole School Evaluation during the week beginning 30th September.

The pre evaluation meetings were held on Friday last 5th September. There were three meetings with inspectors Ms. Dolores Brady and Ms. Ann O'Sullivan. They met with the Board of Management, Parents' Association and teachers as requested. A third inspector, Ms. Dolores De Bhál, will also be present for
the WSE.

The sampling of parents' views will be sought through the distribution and collection of parent questionnaires - one questionnaire will be issued per family in half of the school. The questionnaires will be sent to the school by the inspector and should be returned to the school
no later than Friday 27th September.

The pupils' views will also be sampled through the distribution of pupil questionnaires. This work will be conducted by the inspectorate in chosen classes. Finally, it is hoped that post evaluation meetings with the BOM, teachers and the Chairperson of the PA, will take place on 14th October.

We are extending in-class support to all classes/pupils this school year. The aim of this intervention is to give additional support to pupils who may need it and also to stretch the more able pupils. This is in line with Department of Education guidelines and also in conjunction with our Learning Support Policy. The pupils will be taught in small groups in the classroom or withdrawn to a resource room. Class teacher and resource teachers will provide this additional support. Feel free to contact the school if you have any queries.

I wish to advise parents who arranged Personal Accident Insurance on behalf of their children last year, this Insurance has now expired. Should you wish to continue the cover, or take cover for the first time, forms are available from the School Secretary. Please note that no Insurance Forms will be accepted after Friday, 27th September.

There is financial assistance for school books available for parents who have a medical card for their daughter/s. Please contact the School Secretary for further information

We are obliged to forward names of pupils who are absent from school for 20 days or more to the National Education Welfare Board. We ask your co-operation when planning family breaks and holidays to avoid disrupting your children's school term and education.

We wish the Mayo team every success in the All Ireland Final on Sunday next. We will parade around the Mall with our school band on Friday next 20th Sept at 1.00 p.m. (weather permitting) to send our best wishes to James Horan and the team. Pupils may dress in red and green for the day. We hope to celebrate Mayo winning the All Ireland Final by closing the school on Monday, 23rd September. Otherwise school will be open!
