Lough Corrib
The squally weather conditions over several days hampered wet fly fishing but, nevertheless, brown trout fishing was regarded as reasonably good in the Cornamona area to the Greenfields area. A Large number of anglers fished the lough over the weekend. Duckfly or chironomid hatches were poor enough around the Greenfields area but were much better in the Salthouse and Cornamona fishing areas of the lough where Paul French and David O'Connor landed 10 trout for 17 lb in 2 days with wet fly. Local angler Paddy Kinneavy also did well landing 6 for 8.5 lb in just 1 day. Over the week in the above areas, 99 anglers fished and they accounted for 189 trout for 283.75 lb, all taken in 133 angling days.

Given the few days when conditions were suitable, anglers on the west of Lough Corrib fared much better, landing 278 trout over the same number of days for 367 lb. John and Murdock McGimsey from Northern Ireland fished out from Corrib Wave Guesthouse and they took 8 for 13.5 lb during their stay. James Kelly and Mike Faherty, two locals, also had 8 for a day for a weight of 12 lb. A party of Welsh anglers staying at Lakelands Guesthouse, Portacarron, had 102 trout for 124 lb in 42 angling days, and in 6 angling days English anglers Tony Plant and Nigel Heath had 13 trout for 44 lb. The best flies over the week were: Fiery Brown, Bibbio, Peter Ross and various patterns of the duckfly.

Lough Mask
Duckfly patterns and the Sooty Olive were best flies over the week when 49 anglers landed 66 trout for 71 lb in 50 rod days. Reports from the lough say that trout were moving freely to the natural fly on the calmer, warmer days. 24 anglers fished from Lakeside Holiday Homes and they had 41 trout, best 3.5 lb. That was over last weekend. A group of 20 Kildare anglers fished and they averaged about 1 trout each for an average weight of 1.25 lb. Their best trout weighed 5 lb. Eddie Gibbons, Tourmakeady, reports good fishing in his area and within 15 minutes he landed two good trout last Sunday evening.

Galway Salmon Weir Fishery
Owing to the strong winds and torrential rain over several days and nights, the water level rose considerably and with it there was a lot of silt coming from Lough Corrib, greatly discolouring the water at the fishery. However, a few spring salmon were taken when conditions were suitable. And with the improvement in the weather anglers should have better fishing in the days ahead. Those who landed salmon during the week included Dr. Des Bluett, Galway, (8.5 lb), Sean Murphy (10 lb), Peter Lynch (10 lb) and Eugene Murphy (9.5 lb).
