DES BISHOP
THE ROYAL THEATRE, CASTLEBAR
Friday 4th July
The Des Bishop is a native New Yorker but has been a resident of Ireland for many years and thus he has a very unique viewpoint of Irish life. He speaks about Ireland from within the outside. He is coming to the Royal Theatre, Castlebar for one evening show on the 4th of July 2008, and tickets are available now.

Des made a huge impact on Irish Television with his series ‘The Des Bishop Work Experience’ in which Des donned a ginger wig for a few months exposing the hardships of life as a ginger or something. Des then went on to make the hugely critically acclaimed ‘Joy in the Hood’ where he single-handedly unleashed our desire to laugh at the underprivileged thus giving birth to Irish racism. His current TV series, 'In the Name of the Fada', sees him learning Irish in the Connemara Gaeltacht and exploring our attitudes to the language with some hilarious insights into the peculiarities of our beloved native language. He proves that he does know his erse from his elbow.
In the last number of years Des has become a something of a live stand up sensation. Packing them out night after night in Vicar St and selling out venues all over the country.
“Bishop’s grip on an audience is instant and unshakeable, partly down to whirlwind energy and physical charisma, and partly down to sheer volume” – Hot Press
If you thought the Irish could keep Des as our own little secret comedy sensation prepare to be disappointed. Des is receiving invitations to perform all over the world. While I’m sure he’ll always find time for his Irish fan base it’s best to catch him now because the boy will do well.
Don’t miss the opportunity to join Des Bishop in the Royal Theatre, Castlebar on the 4th of July 2008 (American Independence Day). Tickets are priced at €27.50, and are available from the Royal Theatre Box Office on 0818 300 000 or online from www.royaltheatre.ie and all usual outlets as well as from ticketmaster.ie.
