A Novel with a Twist

Have you ever heard of a novel written by 250 people? People like you and me, who most of us are ‘hopeful authors’ and have maybe a novel or two waiting to acknowledged or even chosen for publication. Most of us have read many books by other authors and wished that we could write like that…and as in my case…..sooooo many pages without running out of ideas. But a novel done by 250 writers with no idea how it will end or where it will go. How does that grab you?

Well, believe it or not, I had no idea that was possible until last Thursday when I clicked on a link in a newsletter by Writers World sent to me and came across this fantastic idea. I don’t know why someone has not thought of that before, but most probably it could be the hard work behind it to edit and monitor the outcome of the novel itself. True to myself, always up for a challenge I registered to be one of the writers and was horrified on Friday night when I realized I had won the bid as was requested (as per the rules and conditions) to read the pages written by others before me and carry on with the story from there. As it is in its initial stages I was thrilled to find out (once I read the story so far) that all I could do is give it a go…and that’s just what I did. I just sat down and wrote whatever came to mind. You have to write between 250 to 450 words only (one page) and when you get going, it’s quite hard to stop in time…but I managed. With bated breath I submitted my work via email to the inventor of this novel idea (hoping he would not fall over laughing when he read my meager contribution and was quite pleased to receive a positive reply. Quoting "An excellent contribution". After doing my little jig of joy down and back up my hallway. I logged onto the site (http://www.noveltwists.com/ where the novel is developing and was so chuffed to see my word in print. You can even ad 100 words about yourself, what you do and such things below the page. Good advertising, I think.

I think what tickles me pink about the whole thing is, even if you contribute a page of your own fantasy world to the novel, you never know what turns and twists will come from it and how the next person will use your and the previous pages to mould the story. Speaking about twists… the novel is called "Novel Twists" which just about says it all. Personally I can’t wait to read the next page and see how the novel works out. There is even a bonus attached to it. If this fantastic idea gets published, each Author will receive a part of the royalty as well. So in short…. You can have fun, challenge yourself, do a little jig around your house and you might even get paid for it. I mean the contribution, not the jig. J
