Simon O’Dwyer, of Prehistoric Music Ireland, pictured below, sounding the exact replica of a prehistoric horn, the original of which was found at Loughnashade, near Navan Fort, Co. Armagh.

The specially commissioned horn was constructed by John Creed, a master silversmith from Scotland, who came to the National Museum of Ireland and took precise measurements of the original instrument. He then fashioned a perfect copy using the same techniques as those used by the Early Iron Age makers.

Simon O’Dwyer, and his wife Maria Cullen O’Dwyer give demonstrations of this and other instruments including the Kerry Horn and the Mayo Horn. It was a marvellous experience to hear the notes resounding through the hills near Cornamona where Simon and Maria live.
