Mini Rugby News
This weekend Castlebar host a Mini Blitz against Westport and Ballina. All coaches and players have to be at the clubhouse at 9.45am with the Blitz starting at 10am. Parents are as always invited to come out and view the facilities and support the lads. The Blitz should be over about 1pm.
Castlebar U13s beat Galwegians(North ) in a very exciting game on Saturday. Galwegians dominated the first half and rarely did Castlebar get out of their own half. Galwegians were first to score and quickly put ten points on the score board. Towards the end of the first half Niall Fahey, in second centre, made a great break and scored under the posts to finish the first half 10-5 to Galwegians.
Castlebar started the second half very determined but conceded another try. But the team fought back and ran in four tries scored by James Durkan, Ryan Coleman and Caimen Summerville in what was a very exciting game displaying ferocious tackling, excellent passing and great multiphase play. The final score was 25- 17 to Castlebar.
Castlebar U13s training is at 1:45 on Saturday and not 10:30 due to a mini blitz. It will end at 3:00.
The under 14 team could be in action this weekend as their game against Tuam was postponed. Players will be notified at training.
The Under 16 game against Dunmore was unfortunately abandoned due to an serious injury to a Dunmore player which required an ambulance to be called. Castlebar were leading 17-7 at the time the game was abandoned. A decision will be made on the game shortly.
A spirited Castlebar side had to be satisfied with
second best as they came up against a very strong Corinthian team at Cloondeash at the weekend.
Castlebar matched the Galway side blow for blow in the opening quarter of a free flowing game.
The visiting side scored three unanswered tries before George Sweeney chased up his own block down to touch down for Castlebar’s first try.

Corinthians took hold of the game in the second half and ran in a further 3 tries.
To their credit Castlebar played some great rugby and never let the score affect their willingness to stay in the game.
This determination saw Castlebar come back to score their second try with Niall O’Byrne touching down in the corner.
Corinthians ran out comfortable winners in what was an enjoyable game of rugby played in good spirits.
Castlebar’s next outing is a Home fixture against Dunmore on the 18th November, training continues on Wednesday’s at 7pm.
The under 20 side faced the Students of NUIG on Friday night under lights but unfortunately had to give second best with NUIG winning 12-3.
For many years Castlebar have gone to Sligo and come away disappointed, sometimes by results and decisions that were not of their making. Last Sunday, they gave a wonderful display of rugby and discipline in defeating Sligo 16-13 in Strandhill. Castlebar’s scores coming from Marty McNicholas with the deadly Cusack duo kicking the rest. Robbie with two penalties and a conversion with older brother Christy with a sublime drop goal. Next week Castlebar host Boys Club in another must win tie. Should other results go their way Castlebar could top the table come Sunday evening. It is imperative that everyone gets out to Cloondeash on Sunday next and roars on the lads in what will be one of the games of the season.

The Seconds team were in Brilliant form on Sunday last when they defeated Tuam by 32 points to 5. Castlebar’s scores coming from 3 Padraic Healy tries with one each for Paudi O’Malley and Tom Murphy. Ronan Conway kicked two conversions and a Penalty. Next up is Ballina in Ballina at 2.30. Training continues as usual.

The Oldies/Masters were in action on Saturday against an English touring side and as usual gave their usual 110%. And the now legendary Castlebar masters unbeaten record was kept intact with Castlebar winning 12-5 win. Castlebar’s scores coming from Ger Casey and Paddy Flannelly with Flannelly adding the conversion. Was Also good to see a few old Stalwarts in Joe Corcoran, John Parsons, Fish Cunningham and Simon Fabby turning out, Well done lads!
