The Castlebar Rag Rugby Competition is entering its final group games before the finals and it is slightly clearer as to who will make the semi finals of the different competitions. However, as is the case with all good competitions, some groups are still going down to the wire meaning that a lot of interest will surround certain games on Thursday night.
The previous weekend separated the could-bes from the will-nots and this was obvious in Pool one where Symphony Kitchens broke from the pack to almost guarantee a semi final place in the cup. However Casey’s and Elverys have still every chance of winning the second cup semi final spot with the Castle Inn and Allergen now fighting it out with the winner getting to the Plate and the Loser going to the Shield, Bowl or even Saucer depending on how other results go depending on Baxter in their final two games.
In Pool Two, Killary one are almost certain to go through with a one hundred per cent record. But the big question is who will follow them. Bar One, Looney Tunes and the Killary two are still in with a big shout with Council Chambers possibly upsetting the cart. But they will have to win their last two games by big margins to go through.
Pool Three is fast turning into the group of death. Rays, Club Physio and Oliver Kellehers are still in with a chance of the cup semis. Put simply, the team who can keep their nerve will get through in this one. The Lost, Mingin Wingers and The Undertakers are fighting among themselves in the bottom half of the table but they could have the final say yet.
Pool four is another one where three teams are vying for two spots. The Douges and the Dream team are locked together, just two points behind The Mighty Ducks so what ever happens this group will be interesting. Amo and Cashins are too far back to make an impact on the table but they will fancy their chances in the other competitions.
The final group standings will be decided like this:
- Points
- Games won
- If teams are still level, Points difference.
The finals are scheduled for the following week with semi finals kicking off at 7pm followed by the finals starting at 8.15pm to give teams a chance of a breather. The competition will then be rounded off with the presentation night, Barbecue and Disco. NOTE: Teams who have not paid their entry must do so next Thursday night. This is very important.
