The footballers from St Angela's National School in Castlebar were victorious in the Cuman na mBunscol mini-sevens competition played in Breaffy last week.
The competition was age-handicapped in order to give all schools a level
playing field and this meant that the majority of the players on the St.
Angela's teams were from fourth and fifth class. This didn't deter the girls however
and the team played some fine football.
The draw resulted in St. Angela's playing Ballintubber in the first round. Excellent scores from Sinead Moylette and Grainne Flynn ensured a comprehensive win. This win lead to a much tougher battle against Breaffy. Going into the second half St. Angela's were behind by 4 points. However St. Angela's grit and determination came through and they emerged victorious.
St. Angela's met Ballyvary in the final. A tired team took the field and there was only a point between the teams in the first half. However, St. Angela's strength and never say die attitude led to a comprehensive win.
A warm thanks to all the parents that were present to support the team.
