This
coming Monday 9th November there will be an information evening on the new Civil Partnership Bill and how it affects you.
The
purpose of this event is to provide information on the pros and cons
of this proposed Bill and to help you decide how it could
affect you in your particular situation.
Four
guest speakers have been invited: one in favour of the Bill, one
against the Bill in its present form, a legal expert to clarify the
legal implications and finally a speaker telling her personal story re
the Bill.
Afterwards there will be a Q&A session and refreshments will be served where people can talk, discuss and network.
The Civil Partnership Bill 2009, if passed, will:
- enable the recognition and
registration of relationships outside marriage, both heterosexual and
homosexual. These relationships would be known as "civil partnerships"
- make provision for the legal recognition of co-habiting couples under certain circumstances.
There
is a misconception that this Bill is an issue only for same-sex
couples. This Bill potentially affects ALL, both same- and opposite-sex
couples.
Come along on Monday evening and find out more.
