An astonishing performer who combines breathtaking technique with sublime artistry, Pedro Carneiro is one of the very few percussion players to have made an international career as a soloist. Audiences worldwide have been captivated by his passion and energy, with recent acclaimed performances at the Proms, the Sonorities Festival in Belfast, Grant Park Music Festival in Chicago, Capital Theatre in Beijing and the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London. Carneiro's extensive repertoire ranges from his own solo marimba transcriptions of Bach and Schumann to 20th century classics by Stockhausen, Carter and Xenakis, as well as specially commissioned pieces by contemporary composers. Tonight’s performance programme includes works by Bach, Schumann, Abe, Másson, Bennett, Sierra, Tanaka, Schwantner and Xenakis. An evening of engaging, exciting and extraordinary music in prospect. Part of a Music Network tour.

March News 2006 from Pedro Carneiro.com:

March News
Tuesday, March 07, 2006

Just having finished a residency, which included two clinics and a solo recital only a couple of days ago, at Lugar Comum (preparing the recording of his upcoming Zig-Zag Territoires disc, in June) Carneiro is off to Paris, where he will rehearse with Chilean composer Federico Schumacher, who is currently writing a new work for marimba and electronics, for Carneiro (to be premiered in November, at the Casa da Música, in Oporto).

After the Paris trip, which also includes a TV interview, Carneiro is off to Ireland, for an extensive two week solo tour, which includes a handfull of recitals, masterclasses and one recording of a work specially commissioned for the tour to Ed Bennett.

During March, Carneiro is also co-creating a new six channel real time electrocoustic composition, together with André Sier who will be in charge of Max/MSP programming. Pedro and André will be using "Boids" (boids for max / by eric singer, jasch, andré sier, wesley smith) to create the works spatialization. Boids is a bird flight and animal flock simulator. It is based on the same algorithm which was used in Jurassic Park for the herding dinosaurs.
