Aer Arann, Ireland’s regional airline, today re-launched its daily return flights from Ireland West Airport Knock to Dublin. The new Public Service Obligation (PSO) service will offer an early morning flight to Dublin with an evening return, allowing an opportunity for a full business day in the capital.

Speaking at Ireland West Knock having arrived on the first evening flight from Dublin, Aer Arann Commercial Director Fergal Barry expressed the airline’s delight with the resumption of the PSO route to Dublin.

“When we took over this route three years ago we worked to build it up and as a consequence we developed a very loyal customer base in the area”, said Mr. Barry.

“Naturally therefore we were very disappointed not to be awarded the route in the recent Government tender, but we are delighted that as the second ranked bidder in the tender process we have now been awarded the route and we aim to re-establish ourselves quickly by offering a quality service and low fares”, he continued.

The re-launch of the route was also welcomed by Robert Grealis, Chief Executive of Ireland West Airport Knock who said: “We are delighted with the recommencement of the Dublin service today and we know that it comes as relief to many people, businesses and tourism providers in the region who rely heavily on this service. We congratulate Aer Arann on being awarded the contract and look forward to further developing the Ireland West Knock – Dublin route in partnership with Aer Arann.”

Pointing to Aer Arann’s commitment to superior service Fergal Barry said that Aer Arann would combine low fares with a quality service offering.

“On this route, as on all others, we will offer a range of highly competitive fares, but we will also offer the service levels that passengers want, such as thirty minute check-in, allocated seating, a free newspaper on board and of course no charge for checked in bags”, Mr. Barry explained.

The Airport’s Chief Executive said that he expects the route to perform very well and said it is a vital part of the transport infrastructure in the region. “This route provides a vital connection from the West of Ireland to Dublin to support and sustain the economic and social development of the region and for people living and businesses operating in Mayo, North Galway, South Sligo and Roscommon in particular. “
