The eleventh Mayo World Convention in Westport, Co. Mayo, hears from some of the county's biggest success stories. "Mayo has always had a strong cohort of entrepreneurs, and we hope their vision and determination will inspire local entrepreneurs just beginning to pursue their dreams," said Sean Reid, chairman, of the Mayo World Convention.
"We are entering an era when the county must really make things happen for itself, and that's why we have assembled such a high-powered assembly of entrepreneurs for our workshop on Indigenous Enterprise."
The speakers will include CBE Ltd founder Gerry Concannon, Sean Noone (Selc Ltd), Tommy Duffy (Cow Comforts), Padraig McHale (McHale Engineering), and Dr Sean Rowland (Hibernia College.)
The Convention, which takes place over the entire weekend in Hotel Westport, opened this evening (FRIDAY) with a Civic Reception hosted by Westport Town Council. And, in a novel bid to showcase the county, details have also been announced of a special Mayo Alive Day in Temple Bar, Dublin, next month.
The organisers say "Mayo Day in the capital on Sunday, June 19th, will feature the beauty, culture, adventure, music and food of Mayo."
Over 25,000 people are expected to attend and the Mayo Association in Dublin have urged natives of the county to "wear the distinctive green and red jersey of Mayo for the day."
The unique event will feature experimental fishing competitions, a Granuaile-inspired treasure hunt, and an opportunity to meet some of Mayo's most famous sons and daughters. More information is available on www.MayoAliveFestival.com.
