Services offered by Mayo Local Employment Service include: Career Guidance and Career Counselling - Information on full and part-time job vacancies, jobs clubs - CV Preparation - Interview Techniques - Training Courses and Further Education information and advice - Employer Contact - Free Typing, Faxing, Photocopying Service for Registered Clients.

The Local Employment Service (LES) was established in 1996 to operate in parallel with the existing FÁS Employment Services. Mayo has 10 LES offices county wide. They are located in Belmullet, Westport, Achill, Ballyhaunis, Claremorris, Castlebar,Swinford, Ballina, Kiltmagh, & Ballinrobe.

The objective of the LES is to provide services to the long-term unemployed and those most removed from the labour market, as a direct response to the local context within which that particular LES is located.

Each area in which an LES Office is located has its own unique characteristics and therefore services and solutions, which are provided, offer a “Best Fit” scenario for each of our clients.  Although Mayo LES is a countywide programme we are able to retain a local response that some similar service providers cannot. The fact that we are a countywide service means that as an organisation we are able to develop and implement policies and strategies, which have a wider national remit.

The downturn of the construction industry has brought about a changed landscape in terms of our economy and employment.   In the past year, we have had increasing numbers of individuals from the construction sector who have found themselves for the first time looking for assistance from our service.  The challenges that come with this change in the labour market scene are many; we strive to tailor training for individuals from different backgrounds and our mediation role between clients and employers has become of greater importance.

Our service strives to be above all adaptable and responsive as the speed of change is now a key aspect of the modern labour market.

Over the last number of years we have proven that a quality service can be provided that remains client focused and this is demonstrated by the fact that the Mayo LES has been awarded both the Q Mark and Excellence Through People quality Standards in 2006, 2007 & 2008. Recently we launched our new website www.mayoles.com making us accessible to a wider community. This website contains contact names & opening hours of all our offices. Our aim is to maintain a consistent high standard of work practice while never forgetting our main role is to encourage people from deprived or disadvantaged background to gain a foothold in training or employment and improve their quality of life.
